House music was brand new on the South Side of Chicago and Jeanette found her home at Frankie Knuckles' Warehouse and Ron Hardy's Music Box.

In one session, she wrote and sang the words to “Shake Your Body.” It became an international hit and a record DJs still reach for.

Born in Belzoni, Mississippi and raised in Chicago, she was leading the church mass choir before she ever stood in a club.

02 · The rooms

Then she heard house music at the Warehouse and the Music Box, and she knew. She has been its voice and its witness ever since.

03 · A face to the voice

At the Chosen Few Picnic, for the 40th anniversary of house, fans who had loved her record for decades finally put a face to the voice.
